A popular artist by the name of Chubby Checker was a big hit during this decade. He Introduced a lot of new music, but the biggest hit was his new erosion of the song called the Twist. It was a very simple dance and thats what made it popular. Everyone could do it; it was as simple as placing one foot forward and twisting then repeating. This era of dance was letting people enjoy dance without the worry of having someone else to dance with. It allowed people to dance by themselves, no touching was required. That Is one of the reasons I believe that It was so popular. Later into the asss Americas interests were expanding into other types of dance.Into the sasss people started the rein of Disco and Punk. Both of these types of once were black and white from each other. Peoples Interests were changing and not everyone like the same thing. Disco was very elaborate, bright colors, sexy, and upbeat. Punk was the aggressive, dark colored theme, and had a bad ass type of vibe. Along with the punk type of music came dancing called Noshing and Pogo. Noshing consisted of a lot of head banging, flinging your body all around with violent movements in small or large groups. Their intentions were not to hurt people but sometimes things would happen and kids would get injured. Pogo was just standing n one place and Jumping up and down waving your hands up and down. Hip-hop was starting and people quickly picked up on the catchy up beat tempo. Hip-hop has been has never really died out and is still going today.Looking back throughout American history our culture is never satisfied with what they have. Its Just the American culture way of life. Our culture changes so much as you can tell through the last 40 years of dance alone. Im an American but I would consider myself an outsider to all of this. I have heard about all of these dances and fads but have never really attempted any in an organized way. I think when someone looks back throughout American history dance is one of the biggest ways to tell what was going on. It allowed people to express themselves in ways they might not be able to put into words. It is important teach the basic principles of dance to generation to generation so our traditions and way we live carry on. Thomas K. Haggard said it very well While dance education is essentially of a singular nature-?about teaching in and through movement that is rhythmically organized (to one degree or another), aesthetically orientated, and tied in to training the body in the Dos and Dont of cultural signing-?the was in which dance is taught, thought of, dealt with, and passed on vary greatly (culture to culture, program to program, teacher to teacher, and student to student) (Haggard, 245-246)2.Passing on these traditions is essential for the survival of America. Expression of dance has definitely shaped America. Dance is the way of life for cultures. Without dance America would not have been the same place as it is today. Through the movement of dance, outsiders to our society are able to understand basic concepts of America. It shows the development of our civilization like a timeline. Dance will never die. I would consider it one of the main focal points for many cultures. Peoples interests are always changing and so will dance, this is what makes are culture continue to move on and grow.
