Intel Environmental Challenges - 1026 Words

1. Since Barrett took over at Intel, he has made a number of changes. The first change was attempting to move into different new markets. This strategy failed, and the company quickly withdrew from these markets. These included network servers and routers and an e-commerce service for small businesses. Another thing that happened was that Barrett engaged in a series of internal reorganizations. This initiative allowed for the company to avoid duplication and create better coordination. One reorganization created a new wireless unit, and he also created an architecture group. A third major initiative in the past three years was job cuts, in which Intel cut 5000 jobs primarily through attrition. 2. During Barretts tenure, there were a number of different environmental challenges. The first such challenge came with the 9/11 terrorist attacks. These attacks crippled the US economy, and would eventually spur the war with Iraq. The economy sputtered for a time, and contributing to this was the issue of the dot-com bust. As a result of these changes, Intel was faced with the challenge of a declining sales environment. Firms were not buying because of the environmental uncertainty, and that affected suppliers to business, one of which was Intel. Another environmental change was increased competition. In chips, Intel held a dominant position and really faced serious competition only from one company. That company was AMD, and it had introduced its Athlon chip, and this wasShow MoreRelatedInternal And External Environmental Factors Of Operations Management1522 Words   |  7 PagesIntel’s operations strategies are comprised of both internal and external environmental factors. Negative Effects Of Child Labor In Ghana - 1583 Words

Lives of little ones are destroyed, when child labor is employed. This is one of the famous slogans that shows the severity and the cruelty of child labor. Child labor refers to work that threatens children’s health and safety or deprives their right to education (Herring). Child labor is a serious global issue that the world is facing these days. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), 215 million children worldwide between the ages of five and seventeen work under conditions that are considered illegal, hazardous, or extremely exploitative. ILO also states that â€Å"Hazardous child labour is most prevalent among the 15-17 years old. Nevertheless, up to a fourth of all child labour (19 million) is done by children less than†¦show more content†¦Heady focused on measuring the skills that children have learned in reading and mathematics rather than analyzing school enrollment and attendance as he believed that â€Å"the use of school attendance as a measure of educational achievement is not ideal for estimating the harm caused by child labour† (Heady 1). He argued that it might over-estimate or under-estimate the harm of child labor. To measure Ghana children’s educational achievement, Heady analyzed the result of Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS2). GLSS2 is an efficient method that proves child working have a negative impact on children education. It includes an educational test that consists of an easy reading test, an easy mathematics test, an advanced reading test, and an advanced mathematics test. The analysis focused on children aged between 9 and 18 and the test results has been organized by grouping working and non-working children of the same age (Heady 21). There were big differences in test scores between working and non-working children of the same age. Working children received much lower scores on reading and mathematics achievement compared to non-working children. They are struggling in having academic achievement due to the â€Å"tiredness and lack of time to complete homework† (Heady 23). They feel exhausted and lose their interest in learning. This also results in low attendance which threaten children’s right to get education. Trigonometric Functions free essay sample

Application of Trigonometry in Real Life Situation Mathematics is a subject that is vital for gaining a better perspective on events that occur in the natural world an in real life situation. A keen aptitude for math improves critical thinking and promotes problem-solving abilities. One specific area of mathematical and geometrical reasoning is trigonometry which studies the properties of triangles. In some of the fields such as architecture, astronomy , biology, cartography, chemistry, civil engineering, computer graphics, geophysics, crystallography and economics , some things in these fields cannot be understood without trigonometry. These proved that trigonometry really is needed in our real life situation. Trigonometry finds a perfect partner in modern architecture. It is really needed in architecture fields, without trigonometry architecture is hard to understand. The beautifully curved surfaces in steel, stone and glass would be impossible if not for the immense potential of this science. So how does this work actually. We will write a custom essay sample on Trigonometric Functions or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In fact the flat panels and straight planes in the building are but at an angle to one another and the illusion is that of a curved surface. Although it is unlikely that one will ever need to directly apply a trigonometric function in solving a practical issue, the fundamental background of the science finds usage in an area which is passion for many is music. As we may be aware sound travels in waves and this pattern though not as regular as a sine or cosine function, is still useful in developing computer music. A computer cannot obviously listen to and comprehend music as we do, so computers represent it mathematically by its constituent sound waves. And this means that sound engineers and technologists who research advances in computer music and even hi-tech music composers have to relate to the basic laws of trigonometry. Besides that, trigonometry is an arty science that can be used to measure the heights of mountains. We want to measure the heights of mountains, because this information is of great value for aircraft designing and navigation. And if this sounds overly technical think about the time when we last took a vacation at a hill station. We might be surprised how much this information comes in handy to tourists, for example those with medical conditions that prevent them from traveling to very high altitudes. So the nest time you want to go trekking you might want to know the actual altitude you might be traversing. Other than that, digital imaging is another real life application of this marvelous trigonometry. Computer generation of complex imagery is made possible by the use of geometrical patterns that define the precise location and color of each of the infinite points on the image to be created. The image is made detailed and accurate by a technique referred to as triangulation. The edges of the triangles that form the image make a wire frame of the object to be created and contribute to a realistic picture. Several imaging technologies that apply the concepts of trigonometry find usage in medicine. Medical techniques such as CAT and MRI scanning, in detecting tumors and even in laser treatments are the practical applications of sine and cosine functions. Lastly and the most useful of trigonometry is application of trigonometry is astronomy. The kind of trigonometry needed to understand positions on a sphere is called spherical trigonometry. Spherical trigonometry is rarely taught now since its job has been taken over by linear algebra. Most mathematicians who studied astronomy created or used trigonometry in some form to perform their calculations. The creation of trigonometry took nearly a thousand years, and it was being developed and expanded before anyone even recognized it as a subject worth studying. Although much of the work done in these times was not entirely accurate, the concepts that came out of their research are indispensable and are still with us today. Without the study of trigonometry, little would have been accomplished in the fields of navigation, land measure, mensuration, and surveying. In addition, Trigonometric tables were created over two thousand years ago for computations in astronomy. The stars were thought to be fixed on a crystal sphere of great size, and that model was perfect for practical purposes. Only the planets moved on the sphere. (At the time there were seven recognized planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the moon, and the sun. Those are the planets that we name our days of the week after. The earth wasnt yet considered to be a planet since it was the center of the universe, and the outer planets werent discovered then. )

Your Decision Essays - Deception, Crimes, Perjury,

Your Decision Living in the world in which we live in today it is often very unusual to actually find and meet a person who one can trust and believe in completely. In today's society individual values such as honesty and integrity are often questionable in American people. In the United States people look at all the rights that they do have as citizens, and freedom of speech is one of those rights. This does not mean the freedom of speech when and whenever you would like to use it. It means that people in the United States are allowed to have opinions and publicly show those opinions, but it does not mean to lie. There are so many problems and difficulties in this world that people face each day that they often use perjury or common lying as a way of dealing with those problems. When speaking to a child, common questions like, "Did you do that?" or "Who did this?" are often asked. Probably the most popular answer given by any child would have to be, "I do not know," and "It was not me." Depending on the age of the child they most likely are not speaking the whole truth and a "little white" lie has been told. The extent of the "white" lies are determined and vary from family to family. Personally in my household those types of things were not tolerated and were brought to a halt at a very early age. In some places things like this go on and on progressing into an even bigger problem. Also, younger children like to test the extent of their parents limits, often seeing how far lying will actually get them. Perjury and lying are basically considered to be the same thing, except that the consequences for one could be more damaging and destructible than for the other. Webster's dictionary defines the term perjury as the act of giving false testimony while under oath. "Either a legal proceeding, as by a witness at a trial, or in legal matters in which an oath is authorized or required by law, as in an affidavit affecting title to property. In a legal proceeding, a mistatement by witness, made through in inadvetance or mistake, does not, however, constitute perjury. A violation of a promissory oath, such as the oath of office taken by a judge, does not warrant proscecution for perjury." Recently, numerous examples of perjury have been made public. The most talked about and well known case of recent history would have to be the trial concerning President William (Bill) J. Clinton, elected leader of the United States. This case has been majorly debated and has also been on the minds of many c oncerned Americans. For many realizing that a public figure such as President Clinton could be involved and may have committed the crime of perjury is unimaginable (Perjury). In the Clinton "scandal," President Clinton is being said to have committed the act of perjury by lying under oath that he did not have "sexual relations" with Ms. Moncia Lewisnsky, a former White House intern. In this case both Clinton and Lewisnsky have both accused each other as lying, thus allowing the truth to not fully come out. This case or "scandal", as some people call it, has been very emotional and embrassing to all of the parties involved, as well as all of the American people. As a crime perjury is dealt with in a very serious manner. Some individuals that have been convicted of perjury have served anywhere from two years to twenty years in jail. If committing the act perjury, many consequences can happen. Examples of consequences in cases are house arrest, revoking of medical or professional licenses, and community service. In the case dealing with the President, a possible impeachment or revoction of office could have likely occurred. After months of trials, questions, and debating, charges were dropped and the whole ordeal is looked upon as forgotten, for some. For others this was a turning point to where our country is now heading. Perjury has become very rampid and a rapidly increasing problem. So how do we begin to deal with it?
