Outwardly Gene is one of the top students in his class and a talented athlete. Thesetraits earn him respect on campus and, most importantly, the friendship of Phineas, whom Generespects more than any of his fellow classmates. But inwardly, Gene is plagued by the darkerforces of human nature, forces that prey upon the turbulence of adolescence. Genes admirationand love for Finny is balanced and marred by his fierce jealousy of him, by a deep hazard inhimself, and, because of his insecurity, a need to compete with and "defeat" his friend at all costs.Genes internal emotional battles are the major source of conflict and stress in the novel.Phineas - Called Finny by his classmates, Phineas is Genes closest c ompanion at Devon and, forour narrator, the central focus of the novel. The Tea Party Movement Essay -- Political Movement, American Social Is
The tea political party has been a hot topic in the United States ever so since the movement began in 2008, yet galore(postnominal) people do not understand what exactly it is. Contrary to what some people may think, the tea party is not a true political party. It can broadly be defined as a gathering of libertarians, conservatives, and other people who want to variety show Washington. The common ideals of the tea party movement are cutting government spending, limiting taxes, and stopping excessive federal regulations. The most important thing one(a) needs to know about the movement though, is that there is not a single tea party- the movement consists of hundreds of different autonomous groups, each widely vary in priorities and size. The tea party movement began as the result of conservative discontent after the presidential election in 2008. Before President Barack Obama took office, many conservatives went on online chat boards and expressed anger over the banks be ing bailed out and billions of their tax money being spent on government programs. As a form of protest, one individual suggested that everyone mail tea bags to their elected representative in Congress. The concept behind this idea was that what was happening to America at the cadence was like what had occurred in America during the colonial era. Revolutionaries had organized the Boston Tea Party because of the British policy of taxation without representation, and many conservatives felt as if this phrase described what the government was doing again. This was the birth of the tea party movement, and it has only greatly expanded since then. (Ed Pikington Oct 5, 2010)Since the tea party movement is such a several(a) mixture of groups, there is a large spectrum of ideals within it. Regardl... ..., P. (2010, July 14). Gary Paulsen, the well published author shared an experience when books gave him hope. He was a young kid, 10 years old, and just transferred from the Philippines to a public school in Washington D.C., He dropped his coat off in the in-room coat room, and was so frightened that he simply could not move. The teacher noticed this and went back into the room with him. She brought a book with a horse on the cover and let him turn the pages. This enabled him to move with the book. When the teacher felt he was ready, she asked him if he wanted to come out. He agreed, and she held is hand as he was led into the classroom, to his seat. Graduation Speech -- Graduation Speech, Commencement Address
I agonized over writing this speech for a long time, because I felt like nothing I could say would make a difference, first because I dont know if what I could say would be good advice, and second because I dont know if advice about things like being true to yourself and setting goals and wholly that is actually helpful. How can I give advice that I cant even follow in my own life? And even if you are mesmerized for my two minutes, you would walk out of here and your life wouldnt be either different. Or maybe youd be inspired for a day, and then forget. But still, the speech had to be written. In my writing process, I would talk to various people, who were all very encouraging, and get all excited about a new speech and brainstorm a lot of ideas. Later I would sit pile at my computer, a...

Rousseau Essay -- Psychology
Rousseau starts his discourse with the quote, What is natural has to be investigated not in beings that are depraved, but in those that are good according to nature (Aristotle. Politics. II). It is this view that Rousseau uses to define his second discourse. Rousseau begins his story of hu public nature by setting aside on the whole the facts (132). Preferred Learning Style Essay
Preferred Learning Style MultimodalGrand Canyon UniversityNRS-429VAugust 22, 2013Today to a greater extent adults are returning to school for continuing education. It can be very difficult to juggle a full time job, school work, and still recuperate time to spend with the family. Time management is of the utmost importance in order to be successful in furthering education. A student knowing his or her nurture style could be an important first step in being successful. Learning style is the way a person absorbs and processes information to be used at a later time. For a student, knowing his or her learning style result enable them to make the changes needed to improve their guideing habits. Neil Fleming, an educator, launched VARK in 1987. It is a questionnaire used to assess learning styles. The questionnaire is free for use in schools and universities. VARK is an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. Fleming states that it is not a learning style questionnaire, it provides feedback solo on ones preferred modes of communicating. (. There are critics of learning styles. This could be because it is difficult to measure learning. These critics say that knowing your learning style does not improve your way of learning and it is hard to dispute because there is no evidence to support this . However this learner feels that knowing her learning style will better enable her to adjust to the many demands of continuing education. Although there are four categories of learning preferences, there is also a multimodal learning preference. This preference integrates to a greater extent than one preference of learning. Approximately 60% of any population fits into the category of multimodal learning preference (. This learner is a multimodal learner. Learners with multimodal preferences may adapt their mode of learning to the situation at hand. For example, if this learner is present in a class and the instructor is lecturing without any visual aids to a ssist in learning, past she may use the read/write learning style. She make take extensive notes in class thengo back and read exclusively of the notes later. One down side to this method of learning can be the time restraint. If there is a lot of material to cover over a short period of time, then this method may not be top hat. According to the questionnaire, this learner is multimodal, with read/write and aural as the stronger learning preferences. On this point she disagrees with the questionnaire, as she feels she is more visual than aural. She scored lower in kinaesthetic but feels at times she is definitely a kinesthetic learner. It takes her back to her years in the military when the motto was see one, do one, teach one. This fits her especially when learning a new task, as she is very hands on. It goes along with the kinesthetic learner needing to do things in order to understand them. The questionnaire states that visual learner use pictures, posters, books with diagram s, graphs, and flow charts. They may also use polar highlighters to emphasize different points. This learner does like the idea of pictures, slides, and flow charts but feels that graphs may be difficult to understand sometimes because the amount of information can be enkindle at times. The multimodal learner can be placed in two categories. One category is the context specific learner. This theatrical role of learner chooses the mode that best fits the need at that specific time. Their scores on the VARK questionnaire are usually between 13 and 26. This learner tends to fall into this category now. The other category is the square sense approach. This type of learner uses a number of their modes of learning in combination and their scores on the VARK questionnaire are usually above 30. One prejudice of this may be that the learner may not fully understand new material. Initially when this learner first returned to school for her Associates Degree in Nursing, she was this type o f learner. It did not take long for her to adjust her study habits and find a learning style that was better for her. For the online courses of this nursing program, this learner has used more of the read/write mode of learning. This has worked best for her because of the fast pace of the classes and the amount of material covered. She does use more than one mode of learning when the situation requires it, and she feels that will be the case as the school year continues. The VARK questionnaire was very interesting. This learner was surprised the learning styles could be assessed from only a few questions, but the results were fairly accurate. In this fast pacedcourse of study the learner feels that the results of this questionnaire and good time management will help her to be successful in this and upcoming classes.ReferencesFleming, N. a. Affirmative Action: Preferential Treatment Essay
During the college process, pupils are advised in multiple ways on how to properly present themselves to draw the appeal of colleges. Whether it is by highlighting their awards, accomplishments or talents, scholarly persons are constantly working on improving their resume. They were told that with good grades, plaincurricular activities, and heart-warming essays that they would find success in being admitted into a prestigious university. However, at that place are various other circumstanceors that determine whether one is accepted or denied. An important and often scrutinized factor is the exercise of approbatory follow up in admissions. While affirmative bodily function should not hold the weight it does in admissions currently, it seems that people are unaware of the other preferential treatments given to certain students. Afrmative action in upgrade of underrepresented minorities has been a controversial surmountic debated and scrutinized by scholars, the media, and t he public for many years. Two other preferential admissions programs have been little controversial but in general use one involving giving an admissions boost to applicants with athletic sk biliouss and the other one to children of alumni, commonly known as legacies. As these various categories suggest, entry into selective institutions of higher(prenominal) education has never been decided purely on academician criteriabefore or after minority afrmative action came into effect. As the term affirmative action encompasses the ideal that institutions promote diversity and growth by including historically excluded gatherings in their admissions, legacy admissions and athletic admissions are considered affirmative. (Massey and Mooney 99-117) They do originate from very varied motivations, but they bring non-academic criteria that impact the admissions process. Therefore, by attaching the label afrmative action to legacy and athletic admissions, it is deliberately underscoring the fa ct that minorities are not the only social group to benefit from such a policy. Supporters of affirmative action claim that minority students, generally speaking, start out at a dis benefit in their college or job application process. They usually come from lower income families and, in turn, have fewer opportunities than those who go to private school. Some inner city youths had grown up in environments filled with crime, violence, and discouragement. Genuine, hard-working minority students are every bit as capable as white students, but because of these disadvantages, they whitethorn not have the homogeneous paper qualifications. Affirmative action evens the playing field a bit. (Massey and Mooney 99-117) Nonetheless, it was designed to end discrimination and unfair treatment of employees/students based on color, but it in effect does the opposite.Whites who work harder and/or are more qualified can be passed over strictly because they are white. Contrary to many stereotypes, ma ny minorities descent into the middle or upper class, and many whites live in poverty. (Fletcher) Unfortunately, the way things are set up now, a poverty-stricken white student who uses educate and hard work to become the best he can be can be passed over by a rich minority student who doesnt put in much effort at all. Supporters also claim that most stereotypes may never be broken without affirmative action. For decades blacks were considered less capable than whites. It took affirmative action to give blacks the opportunity to show they are every bit as capable. However, if you were to ask Colin Powell, Barack Obama, or Oprah Winfrey how they got to where they today, I doubt they would act with affirmative action. (Fletcher) It sets the idea that a minority cannot achieve full potential without the help of affirmative action and undermines their own abilities.Another claim supporters of affirmative use is that it draws people to places they would never have gone elsewise, brin ging under-privileged students to Ivy League institution. But if a student is admitted on a lower basis, he leave alone have less incentive to do well or have the inability to keep up with the work. Why work for that 4.0 GPA when he got in with sub-par grades? In this way, affirmative action is likened to students who are given a boost for being legacies, having a parent(s) attend the school previously. A survey conducted by H. M. Breland effect that afrmative action for children of alumni is practiced widely at both public and private institutions (Howell and Turner 325-351). A later survey conducted by Daniel Golden (2003) revealed that 23 pct of freshmen enrolled at Notre Dame were the children of alumni, with corresponding gures of 14 percentage at Penn, 13 percent at Harvard, 11 percent at Princeton, and 11 percent at the University of Virginia (Howell and Turner 325-351).These numbers seem to be relatively modest however, they belie the relatively small amount of applicants legacies hold. When documenting the number of applicants, it is easily seen that children of alumni benefit from greater admissions rates. agree to studies by William G. Bowen and Derek Bok (1998), legacies had a two to one admissions advantage over non-legacies. Likewise, Cameron Howell and Sarah E. Turner (2004) document a similar advantage at the University of Virginia, where only 32 percent of regular applicants were admitted compared with 57 percent of alumni children. As a result, the freshman class of 2002 was 7 percent legacy, compared with 3 percent African American, even though the call down is 20 percent black. (Massey and Mooney 99-117)The unfairness that follows legacy admissions is what many feel towards affirmative action as well. By giving blacks/Hispanics an obvious advantage in the admissions process, it breeds choler and underestimation of them. In the same way legacies are generalized as dumb rich kids, recipients of affirmative action are seen as undeserving . (Massey and Mooney 99-117) It seems to say that they wouldnt have been able to be admitted into the school elsewise, thus increasing the pressure put onto these students. The consequences translate to students being unable to handle the workload. By turning forth highly qualified Asian/white students in favor of less qualified black/Hispanic students, it is not fair for either race. According to Dr. Richard Sander, prof of Law at UCLA, blacks are two and a half times more likely than whites not to graduate and are four times more likely to fail the bar exam on the first try. (Fletcher) To fulfill their thirst for diversity, colleges often recruit students from below the median. As a result, they are ill equipped to handle the pressures of such a rigorous school and have a smaller chance of graduating. It is not to say that affirmative action is not needed. A homogenous population would make for an unproductive and unmoving student body. Diversity is needed for growth and experience s that differ. In this way, you can see the clear advantage of affirmative action over legacy admissions. Despite affirmative action being flawed, the advantage is at least given to, who is supposed to be, the disadvantage party. legacy admissions should have no place in the college admissions world. It is giving an advantage to students who are probably are not in great need of it if their parents attended a prestigious university Supporters of legacy admissions claim that donations from alumni contribute to building renovations and technological upgrades, as well as supporting financial aid programs for many financially disadvantaged students. (Golden) Legacy students are also thought to dampen understand the sense of tradition of the university and embody the values that the university has traditionally supported. That sounds good, but how true is it? Three elite group schools that are big on legacy preferences Harvard, Princeton, and Yale rank near the bottom when it comes t o the percentage of students from poorer families they have, according to Professor Jerome Karabel in his book The Chosen The Hidden story of Admission and Exclusion at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. (Steinberg) Good students from poor families are often deprived of admission because of the legacy tradition they are less frequently helped by the additional funds that the legacy tradition brings to the school. Contrary to what legacy defenders argue, it is doubtful that dropping legacy preferences has any significant impact on donations to a university.Texas A&M and the University of Georgia are among the large universities that have abandoned legacy preferences and neither has suffered a detectable decline in support. (Howell and Turner 325-351) In addition, Massey and Mooney entrap that, In schools with a stronger commitment to legacy admissions, the children of alumni were more likely to drop out. Ironically, the only evidence we find of a skills mismatch is for the children of alumni. The greater the gap amidst a legacy students SAT and the institutional average SAT, the lower the grades he or she earned, though the effect size was modest. (99-117) They compared the number of hours canvass per week, the psychological performance burden reported by students, grades earned by students through with(predicate) the end of their sophomore year, and the likelihood of students dropping out of school by spring of their junior year. The study concluded that legacies who were given a greater admissions bonus earned lower grades once admitted, a fact which surprised many, including some admissions officials. (99-117)However, although affirmative action and legacy treatment are both found to be large non-academic factors in the college admissions process, athletic skill is one often overlook and not discussed. It is common knowledge that the number of students who excel in both academics and athletics is too small for schools to fill spots with only student athlete s who undertake usual admissions standards. Athletes were shown to have had a 48% better chance of admission than regular students with similar academic achievements in high school and similar govern test score in studies done during 1999. In comparison, legacies, bore only a 25% better chance of admission and minorities stood only an 18% better chance of admission. (Ferris, Finster, and McDonald 555-575)The simplest method to view the different standards used for recruited athletes is to acknowledge the statistics of Division I athletes in high profile sports, such as football and basketball at public universities. These students have SAT scores that average almost 250 points than their non-athletic counterparts. While not as extreme, athletes participating in other sports such as golf, tennis, and swimming average about 100 points less than regular students on standardized test scores. (Dolinsky) The way that a majority of these student athletes gain admissions is through modi fied admit programs designed by the school to accept a group of applicants who do not meet the standard criteria. From 2003 to 2006, more than half of the limited admits scholarship athletes at San Diego State University had lower standardized test scores and high school GPAs than other admitted students. In the San Diego State admissions process, students with insufficient credentials may be accepted based on other factors such as socioeconomic background, local residency, and other special talents. However, between fall 2003 and spring 2006, of the 248 special admit students admitted by San Diego State, only 105 were given admission letteredly. The rest of the students granted admission had been the result of various processing errors and of those 105 that were given intentional admission, they were all athletes. (Ferris, Finster, and McDonald 555-575)If there is one thing that is clear, it is that the preferential treatment given to athletes in the admissions process does have i ts consequences. One potential consequence of admitting student athletes with academic credentials below their peers is the risk of academic underperformance by these athletes. (Dolinsky) Similar to those shown with students of affirmative action, statistics are clear in showcasing that athletes are underperforming once they arrive on college campuses. Recently, as more athletes got into schools through advantages in the admissions process, their collegiate GPAs began to suffer, with a majority of athletes placing in the bottom quarter of their classes. In contrast, only 9% of athletes finish in the top third of their class. (Espenshade, Chung, and Walling 14221446)To further exhibit the correlation between preferential treatment in the admissions process and academic underperformance, a study shows that student athletes generally remove so-called easy majorssuch as social sciencesrather than the harder majors such as math, science, and engineering. One stock for explaining academ ic underperformance, other than the fact that athletes arrive at college with noticeably lower academic credentials, is that student athletes face the rigors and responsibilities of playing a sport, practicing, and trying to divide time between athletics and academics. However, this argument may have little merit as statistics show that an analogous group to student athletesstudents who participate in several extracurricular activitiesdo not underperform at the take of student athletes. (Dolinsky)Although this analogy may not account for different types of students who are athletes as compared to those students who are heavily involved on campus, the comparison tends to show that the time that athletes spend with their respective sports does not prove, in itself, to be a clear reason for academic underperformance. Additionally student athletes already receive a multitude of benefits not given to normal students. Often times, they are given priority registration, extra tutoring, and even separate housing. With the benefit of these extra luxuries, athletes should be able to properly their manage their time to balance academics and their sport. It is not difficult to see the correlation between underperformance at the high school level and underperformance at the college level. Nor is it difficult to see the correlation between the admission of athletes having below-average test scores and high school GPAs and underperformance at the college level. Perhaps this is an unfair stereotype, but there is a reason that this stereotype exists and there is evidence to back it up. What is the price that is paid? One example is Dexter Manley, former professional football participant for the Washington Redskins. Manley testified in front of the United States Senate that he could not read, despite being admitted and staying at Oklahoma State University for four years. (Espenshade, Chung, and Walling 14221446) By admitting students who are not qualified to handle the workload of an undergraduate institution, the ones that are hurt the most are some of the ones who benefit.Through each of these policies, certain students are given a pull in the college admissions office over other students. In comparison, these three programs are very similar in how they offer students an advantage in the system. each(prenominal) program requires that you fulfill a certain requirement, which is the basis for their policy. They are all affirmative action policies that factor in something non-academic into your rejection or acceptance. With racial affirmative action being the most controversial and widely discussed, it has seemed that the other two have slipped underneath the radar. All three contribute to a discrepancy in the student body that will continue to grow unless awareness is created. Although in a perfect world, students wouldnt have to worry about such factors, we live in a society where the slightest differences can make or break you. Whatever the effects of a frmative action in raising or lowering the odds of academic success, the students should be aware and know exactly what they are going to get themselves into.Works CitedDolinsky, Anna. Nature and Nature in Cognitive Development Essay
Why are both(prenominal) nature and nurture important in perceptual motherment? How do both help a babys brain and sensory organs to develop? The question of whether nature or nurture is more important in terms of perceptual development has bee long debated. In general, there are two theories that explain how humans develop these perceptions. The Nativists claim that our brains are built or hardwired to recognize certain stimuli by both design and construction. In contrast, an Empiricist would say that we learn through experience how to grok things. There was an experiment d one and only(a) by Nativist researchers that sought to determine how very young mammals are adequate to(p) to perceive. The data concluded that early infants were able to perceive quite a lot before they really had a chance to learn anything. Gibson and Walks the visual cliff experiment was one such experiment, in this foot race both young animals and 6 month old human infants were taken to a side of a visual cliff, the test subjects would avoid the clearly deep drop. This indicated that children toilet perceive visual depth and that visual depth dominates even touch information.Additionally, studies have been done that show babies can recognize faces and that they often prefer the visual stimulation of carton faces as opposed to the same features arranged at random. In other tests it was shown that babies can in addition recognize whether or not and object is coming directly at their face or not. These experiments show that even the undeveloped infant brain has wide capacity for perceptual capabilities. In contrast, several Empiricists experiments have been done as well. In one such study, scientists sought to determine the effects of depriving developing animals from perceptual stimulations. These tests have consistently shown that the longer the subject is deprived, the more severe the consequences. For example, humans are some prison terms born without sight, due to a clouded corn ea. Later in life some elect to have surgery to repair this clouded cornea. The result is sight, these people can see but they cannot perceive what it is that they see. As time goes on they slowly learn to distinguish one object from another, but this is however quite easily interrupted. Often changing an objects position or scope is quite enough to slow down or prevent recognition. To conclude, although some argue that perception is due to nature, while others argue for nurture, it may in position be that the two factors are interdependent and rely on each other. Support for this idea comes from an experiment that studied rats and found that those raised in a perceptually restricted environment had smaller brain development than those raised in an enriched environment, suggesting that while we are born with innate capabilities we need the environment to tell we develop our abilities to perceive well. The perceptual capabilities we have at birth must be strengthened continuously t hrough perceptual stimulation, furthermore, it would seem that perception in general follows the use it or lose it principle. Just as unused muscles become week, so to do our senses if left unused. Nature and nurture are both essential to health y perceptual development stimulation begins in the womb and quickly follows all the way through adulthood.Sources. Could Eddie have succeeded without the help of Netta Essay
Mabo is an Austalian TV film which was released in 2012 which depicts the life of Eddie koiki Mabo utilizing narrative techniques and elements in which a typical drama consists of. Eddie Koiki Mabo is played by Jimi Bani and his wife Bonita/Netta Mabo was played by Deborah Mail gay, the film was directed my Rachel Perkins and produced by BlackfellaFilms and the ABC. The principal story of Eddies journey from an exiled Murray islander to a justice fighter employed a conventional narrative flow, as well as a secondary narrative component of Eddie and Nettas relationship, however do these two concepts of the film push to one other. The story of Eddie Mabos victor for the fight for freedom and justice was effectively shown over a 40 year time span barely is it clear that Eddie Koiki Mabo could not have succeeded without Netta? I am puzzled upon this straits as there are many a(prenominal) different facts and points that are indirectly increase during the film which are based on th e courage within Eddie himeself, Eddie and Nettas children, and Eddies experiences before he met Netta.Throughout Australian history we have dependn many acts of men and women fighting for the entitlements of the indigenous people however the most respected and recognized of these is Eddie Mabo whom of which stood up for the rights of his people from a very young age whole the way to his death. Mabo battled for the right to own his land which he had inherited and with that came a directive to intensify the policies and laws of the government. One of the many ways he accomplishes these tasks and gains success is by courage. Eddie had courage from a young age which made him able to accomplish many objectives throughout his life time plane before he met Netta and we assemble this just before he gets exiled from Murray Island. Killoran wanted Eddie to cypher on his green truck however Eddie has the courage to turn down this offer. im not going to work as a slave. However when Netta was involved in Eddies life we still see a lack of her support in some cases as she does not have the same will power and courage as Eddie. When Eddie first wanted to stand for his kind and shit a change to the indigenous people, Netta did not support him from the beginning, black causes now ive heard it all. Nevertheless she may not have ceaselessly agreed with Kioki but she always managed to stand by his situation and support him in every way she could, e.g the marches. So with that we establish that it was Eddies courage who led himto his victory however he did have support during the course of his journey. Even though MABO could be pictured as a film about a man and a adult female who saw great injustice and tried to change it, the theme could also be a personal cost of a public campaign to a family who have inadequate financial means and only love and determination to get them through.Netta and Eddie are both hard working people who make an hunting expedition to try and get things done and through their pride and determination they are able to accomplish great things. Eddie fights for the rights and pride of his people while Netta stands by his side as well as constantly supporting the children by looking after them and working to provide food for them. Eddie was a focused and determined man and we see this throughout the film, one part was when Netta asked Eddie what if you dont win, Eddie replies DONT YOU DARE. Perkins purposely put this scene it to show the committal and resilience Eddie Mabo had in order to gain justice for his people, however Eddie would not be able to accomplish such tasks if it wasnt for the strength and provisional carry off that Netta had for his children. Therefore without Nettas assistance with the children Eddie couldnt have been able to successfully focus on winning the court case for the future of his children.People that go to the mainland, they forget everything. Benny Mabo said this to Eddie before he left Murray Island and it was because of this I think Eddie was so strongly willing to make a change for his people, to make the people from the mainland remember where they were from and to provide for these people with the same benefits as the white men. Eddies focus for the benefits of his kind was beyond the imagination of the people around him even Netta Ill give you black causes was what Netta said when Eddie was explaining about the rights for their people. Eddies plan from the beginning, before he met Netta was to make a change, when he was asked to work on Killorians green truck and he refused, and it was obvious enough that it was his experiences, with his dad, that encouraged him to have such a mentality. Evidently enough when Eddie was trying to go back to see his dad we see Netta in the cubical looking upon Eddie as he was frustrated because he was unable to see his dad. This idea of Eddie being alone symbolized that he must accomplish his objectives alone, IM going to make history (dining room scene), as he began his journey alone and stood alone at the pier when wanting to go back to Murray Island. Eddies idea of change originated fromthe teachings of his father, as we see the constant flashbacks throughout the film, not because of the involvement with Netta. Rachel Perkins successfully show the story of Eddie Mabos success for the fight for freedom and justice was effectively shown over a 40 year time span yet is it clear that Eddie Koiki Mabo could not have succeeded without Netta? This question is highly acceptable upon both sides and views of the argument, based on the courage within Eddie himeself, Eddie and Nettas children, and Eddies experiences before he met Netta.

The Alternative Fuel Race: Which One Will Go the Distance?
Since the discovery of fire a million years ago, man has gone a long delegacy in developing sources of energy to support his way of living. Of the worlds current energy sources, about 95% come from fossil discharges such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum. (Cunningham & Saigo, 1997). With issues such as pollution, global warming, and energy conservation, alternate fuel sources emerged, with the competitive vision of erasing the need for fossil fuels in cars.Implementing an alternative for petroleum in vehicles entails many concerns, such as availability, cost of production, energy output, and level of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Farrell et al. , 2006 Hill et al. , 2006). At present, ethanol, battery power, and hybrids are available as alternative fuel sources for passenger vehicles. The question now is which of these three has what it takes to replace fossil fuels? This research paper aims to give an overview of three alternative fuel options for passenger vehicles quick to day ethanol, battery power, and hybrid cars. The entropy and issues presented in this paper should provide information to the general public about the pros and cons of each, and hopefully will aid in the decision as to which alternative fuel is the best option for possibly replacing fossil fuels in passenger cars. To examine each alternative fuel option, the researcher uses information gathered from peer-reviewed journals and news articles published within the past decade. Each of the three topics for investigation is first defined before data is presented and interpreted. The data covers a brief explanation of each fuel option, including statistics and results from studies conducted on them. Also included in this report are economic and environmental pros and cons of the three presented options for passenger cars. This paper does not give mention to the implications of ethanol, battery power, and hybrids on industries other than passenger vehicles. Furthermore, this research does no t cover political and cultural issues affecting the execution of instrument of alternative fuels.

When Brothers Share a Wife
Polyandry is a mold of polygamy whereby a woman has several keep ups. In Tibet those husbands are often brothers, which is why it is most commonly called brotherlike Polyandry. The eldest brother is normally dominant in terms of authority, that is, in managing the household, but all the brothers make do the work and participate as sexual partners.Goldsteins obligate focuses on the overlap between the domestic group, delimit as those individuals that live in a single household together, and the kin group, or people who watch out themselves as relatives, within a certain Tibetan society near Limi, Nepal. According to the article, the idea of polygyny the fetching of more than one wife by a single man is trustd by consanguine brothers for primarily economic reasons in addition to reasons of tradition. Because of the time requirement of the subsistence economy, a man setting up a monogamous household would find it difficult if not impossible to farm, manage the animals, and c are to his husband duties. The article concludes by discussing the decline of polyandrous marriages, and even goes so far as to describe that the practice may be completely gone within a single generations time. Discussion Item The article makes me curious how often persons from a more industrialized region paying visit to a tribal or otherwise remote region and exposed to social elements different from that which is typically seen in their protest culture judge the people whom they are visiting, or conclude that their practices are uncivilized, barbaric or disgusting without stopping and taking the time to think critically about the economic, political and social reasons fundament the practice, as well as the ramifications of changing.

Paths of Glory vs All Quiet on the Western Front Essay
Paths of triumph and in all Quiet on the Western Front argon two different stories about the 1st world war. They are exchangeable and different in their own ways. Many children born in North America usually arrest up seeing war movies from the Americas point of view. This is different in Paths of Glory and All Quiet on the Western Front. These films/novels display how European countries fought this war, whether it was good or ruffianly. They display both sides of WWI, and when compared rout out show differences AND similarities. Here are their differences. A thorough look at these two stories can exhibit many differences, but the main ones would be the point of view world French and German a soldiers perspective and an officers perspective and the outcomes of each side. Paths of Glory(POG) displays Frances view of the war while All Quiet on the Western Front(AQWF) displays Germanys view of the war. The story AQWF is about German soldiers take on the war. It relates more to spring chicken readers lives and the struggles of young soldiers in a war.POG on the other hand, targets the officers as the main point of view in the war. It displays the corruption and the loyalty of officers. In POG the French have the upper hand on the Germans in the war and dont seem to ever be drastically losing, while in AQWF, there is ending everywhere and it ends with all of the main characters dying and Germany losing the war. All these things display the differences between these two epic war stories, but there are some similarities. All Quiet on the Western Front and Paths of Glory have very similar main characters, in which the characters both make the same astonishing discoveries. The characters in both cases realize that the real enemy in the war is not the country they are conflict against, but the leaders of their own military. This is much more relevant in the movie, POG, when it shows General Mireau ordering recruit on his own troops. However, the theme is still in AQWF. Evidence of this is how Corporal Himmelstoss makes the mens lives miserable, reservation them do petty things such as saluting drills.Within the novel the protagonists discover that the men they are against are not much different than themselves. Moreover, this is extremely evident with Paul, the narrator of AQWF, who spends a night in a shell hole with a Frenchman who is dying right beside Paul. Both the novel and the film show the bad living conditions, although the novel is from the German viewpoint and the film, from the French viewpoint. There are many other differences in the plots of the two stories.Similarities and differences are evident throughout All Quiet on the Western Front and Paths of Glory. The differences being the outcomes of each side, the points of view between the two countries and the points of view between officers and soldiers. The similarities of course being the corruption, the living conditions and the divided up setting/time period of WWI. Whe n all is said and done, the differences and similarities of these Great War stories make the pair abominable themes to compare and contrast.

Culture Of Madness Midterm Essay
In the course of the week as directed for the midterm assignment, I was able to hear refers do to imply that some intimacy blind had been said or had occurred. Of alone those snip in that respect are two that were in my opinion most interesting. They are as follows- In the first font the remark that referred to irrationality was do was during a discourse between two girls. One was sound outing the former(a) of something that a lifter of theirs had said the previous day. The two were chatting away excitedly as unmatchable exposit to the new(prenominal)(a) what had transpired. The remark she cant be serious was made by the hearing friend. She remarked this when the other friend told her that their friend (X), a girlfriend not present there, had told her that she indispensablenessed to seek the services of a treat reader. The dialogue then proceeded by girl H saying that that was her reaction too. Girl B wanted to know why their friend wanted to visit the palm reader. An explanation followed where girl H said that their friend X had read in the internet that palm readers could pick out what was going to die in ones forthcoming(a). X wanted to know what was going to happen to her so that she could found for it and stave off disap implyment. The internet had described numerous instances when people were salvage embarrassment and disaster when palm readers warned them or so it. To this, both girl H and B laughed and concord that that idea was fantastic replete. They made fun on what their friend X would be told by the palm reader. They went on talking asking each other questions discussing their views on the same matter and whether they believed in such things. In the second scenario there was a couple, believably a married one, where the lady told the man that she had quit her seam.To this the husband remarked Youve got to be kidding. The tone of the woman was unconcerned at the start. In making the remark the man seemed to be in disbe lief as one who wanted the statement by the woman not to be true. The conversation proceeded with the lady reaffirming her statement and adding that she had turn over in her resignation letter earlier. When asked why she had done that, the woman without mincing her words replied that she had had a ambitiousness severally, around three cartridge clips in the previous week that the building in which she worked was going to better killing people with it.The fact that the dream had come to her three times, she believed, meant that she was being warned of what would happen in future and so she had to posit precaution. It would be wrong for her to ignore the signs only to regret later. Life was much(prenominal) odd than money and that is why she had made the decision. The tone of the conversation turned serious when the man again remarked, that is crazy. He seemed very annoyed and thought the wife had done the wrong thing and proceeded to tell her so.The tempers were flared as the woman was in pains to explain why she had resigned and the man was either too angry or disappointed to hear her out. The man termed her beliefs as outrageous and insensible which made the woman dismantle angrier. She in the long run walked out saying that it was meaningless to eat such a conversation with someone who did not want to understand. In the first side when the remark was made it made girl H who was narrating the incident unconstipated more eager to continue with it. It gave her a chance to explain in detail why their friend had made such a statement. The response seemed to make the conversation more interesting and implied that the one listening to the story was elicit in more information. A reaction that was foreclosed or resisted was one whereby the friend narrating the story could refuse to part with more information about the incident in discussion. The remark besides made sure that the conversation stayed on course as it showed that the listener was quite int erested in what went on , or why their friend being discussed had said that she wished her mother were dead. The response confirmed the intention of the narrator. Who also affirmed that she thought that their friend could not absorb possibly been serious that she was going to visit a palm reader. The remark made the narrator know that her perceiving the story as one worth sharing was right. This reassurance made the girl even more eager to tell what transpired and to even award her views about the altogether incident. In the second matter the remark youve got to be kidding made the woman seem even more serious in her assertion. It made her reiterate her statement that she had quit her job. It also made her want to drop an explanation for her desire before being misunderstood by the man. The remark, also made the situation take an even more serious tone as it actually implied that jokes would be inappropriate at that time or the issue at hand was not a joking matter. The reaction s that were resisted were those of turning the matter into a laughing matter when it was serious. Also the chance to dismiss the incident as inconsequential was closed out.The remark showed that the man was very serious about the subject at hand and therefore the woman could not easily divert the conversation or wish it away as trivial. After the remark the conversation seemed to take a very serious tone. First the remark showed that the man was not at all in agreement with what the woman had done and would take a lot to convince him that it was the right thing to do. In fact further along the conversation another remark threading irrationality was made by the man. This made the woman more agitated as she wanted the man to see things from her point of view and she had not had a chance to make him do this.As the conversation continued it seemed to approximately generate into a disagreement with the couple trying to keep their voices low in a in the public eye(predicate) place. In the first scenario if the remark had not been made by girl B, the excitement of the story would hit taken a dip. A different statement like Oh yes I have been looking for a palm reader myself, would probably have come as a shock to girl H who thought the idea of visit a palm reader to be awkward as well. The conversation would then have turned to a discussion or even an argument for and against the practice of visiting palm readers.Because girl H thought visiting a palm reader was ridiculous possibly the argument would have turned out to be serious making the two friends part slipway or agree to disagree. The other case would have been for girl B to answer in a way to show curiosity. For example Oh really what does she want to watch out? or oh yeah , do those things work, can they really tell the future by looking at ones palm? Because girl B would not have shown support or disagree with what X wanted to do the girls would have continued in a discussion to explore different vi ews concerning such practices. They would each give their different views on palm nurture. If the concept of visiting a palm reader would not have been ridiculous to both girls, maybe they would have delved into discussions concerning the same with examples of what they had heard about the same. The conversation would have direct to the issues about gift in telling the future, the use of magic, sorcery and the like. The girls may have even agreed to join their friend when going to visit the palm reader. In this scenario the two girls were in agreement that visual perception a palm reader was crazy.Though I did not have an opportunity to listen to them for long, I think that they would have described the practice as backward and funny. They would have dismissed it as a practice used by the so called future seers to steal money from people who were naive enough to believe that such things were true. They would have termed those people who visit palm readers as superstitious. Some peo ple who because they did not have anything they believed in, were looking for some thing to grasp. They would also have dismissed the practice of palm denotation as that for those who were afraid of the future and therefore were looking for ways to manipulate it or even find hope and courage if they found that the future had something good to look out for according to the palm reader. For the case involving the couple if the man had responded in a different way say maybe was more interested in the dreams that made the woman quite her job, the woman would have probably passionately described her convictions for what dreams tell about the future,.The conversation would have bygone on and on how other people had dreams that made them avoid disasters. The man would have probably shared some dreams as well and their significance in his life. at that place would not have been an argument over quitting the job during hard economic times owing to irrational beliefs. The couple would have agreed that the action taken by the woman was the best for that situation and gone on to encourage themselves that they were going to land another better job for the woman.Since they had taken it upon themselves to warn themselves of an threatening danger then fate would have directed them to another equally good or even better job. The couple would have gone on to explore the gifting of some people who have the office to tell what the future hold using dreams or even visions. They would also have discussed whether it was appropriate to tell some of her friends working at the building to follow her steps so as to be saved from injury or even death. They may have even proposed ways of nurturing the gift like reading books or finding other people with the same gift as the woman then forming a support group so to speak. In this case since the man found the idea of quitting a job because of a dream irrational, he may have dismissed it as superstitious when they met later. He would have wished the dream away as a result of what she had been thinking during the day or a pic she had watched. Her mind had just worked on what it had processed during the day and there was real news about the future from the dream.Believing in dream would have been dismissed with the man saying that if everything that people dreamt had been a depend of the future then no disasters would have ever hurt anyone as they would be averted in time and save people a lot of grief. The woman on the other hand would defend her case by giving examples of instances when something she had dreamt came true in real life. Apart from this she would argue that the fact that the dream was repeated it was a clear sign that she needed to take action to avoid the impending danger.Yes -not all dreams depict the future, but the one that had made her wake up feeling anxious an indication that there was more to it than she had imagined, she would defend herself She would dismiss lack of treating the dreams she had as important as a sign that one did not believe in supernatural occurrences yet there were many that had been documented in books even in the present day. tendon exercised Pectorals, triceps, biceps and deltoids. These muscles argon located in your shoulders, arms and thorax. Method Lie bulge on the bench, make sure your comfortable as you do not want to be adjusting during reps. purse barbell roughly 8 inches apart, again make sure your grip is secure and comfortable. Lower the bar soft and smoothly directly over your chest and in the same rhythm up to the top again. try to remain smooth in your transaction from the big money to the up as if you argon doing it in a jerking action you my cause injury.Your back should remain in contact with the bench at whole times and your arms should not lock. Notes Your biceps and pectorals are admirer when your on the way down with bar and on the way up they are antsupporter. your biceps are synergist with your triceps because when your biceps are agonist your triceps are antagonist and vice versa. Deltoids are agonist when the bar is on the way up and antagonist when the bar is on the way down. Muscle exercised Rectus abdominis Method Standard sit ups consist of lying flat on your back with your legs bent up at the knees in a triangle shape. You then bring your chest up too your knees, this should be done with your arms across you chest because if they are behind your full point it is easy to pull your head up and fund your neck. Obviously you then reverse the action going back down stressful to keep your back slightly of the ground each time as to feel the full effects of each sit up. Notes The rectus abdominis is agonist on the way up in the standard sit up and is antagonist on the way back down. This means that on the way up it shortens to allow the driving force to take place and then on the way down the muscle will relax again. The top hat example of agonist and antagonist movements is in a twist sit up. This is because when your internal oblique is agonist your external oblique is antagonist and vice versa. Muscles exercised Rectus thighbone, vastus laterali s, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, semimembranosus, semitendinosus and biceps femoris Method In a squat you counterbalance by putting the maximum or close to the maximum weight you can lift on a barbell. During this the torso must be kept straight as not to put any strain on your back. You then slowly rise back up to the starting position and repeat. Notes The quadriceps are agonist when on your dip and on the extension back up they are antagonist. Simultaneously to this your semimembranosus, semitendinosus and biceps femoris otherwise known as your hamstrings are doing the opposite. The muscles of your abdomen are synergists that work together to allow the agonist to operate more effectively. Muscles exercised Gastrocnemius, soleus and tibialis anterior Method Nautilus workout machines target all the muscle groups in the leg. You then proceed to push up so you are on your get onto toes, slowly lower your feet back down to finish repartition. Notes When going up on to your tip toes your soleus and tibialis anterior are the muscles that are agonist and your gastrocnemius is antagonist. When lowering back down to flat footed the roles of the agonists and antagonists are reversed.

Pakistans external sphere of influence comprised of trade, conflicting investment, remittances, and capital flows is interwoven with these countries. All these indicators of external orbit harbour more than 50 per cent of the pursuit in this region. The growth model universe followed in Pakistan over the years is highly dependent on outside(prenominal) capital inflows, mainly from these countries. More than one-half of Pakistans external trade is dependent on these countries. The country could be hurt if demands for its export products dropped significantly, distant investment declines substantially and if the terms of trade are affected. Pakistan has a very inelastic import structure and if exports are hit by a crisis than the true cypher dearth is likely to go beyond the sustainable limits. There is an agreement among analysts that countries with heavy external financing call for are potentially more vulnerable to a deferred payment crunch. Pakistans current account deficit had already touched $14 billion which is 8. 5 per cent of its GDP, in 2007-08. In the current financial year, the ambitious reduction in the CAD is planned but still need a financing of around $12 billion. If import compression measures fail than the financing needs would be more than that. Pakistans external inflows projections hinges upon inflows from GDRs and sovereign bonds in the fiscal year 2008-09.In the current situation every inflows to a lower place these heads are most unlikely. Standard & Poor has downgraded its long-term credit ra ting for Pakistan to triple c incontrovertible and this is the third downgrading of this calendar year. This rating go forth heart some investment prospect as well. The current crisis is aggravated by rising cost of external borrowing on the one hand and scarceness of availability of external inflows coupled with volatility of oil prices in the international market on the other. ingrained security situation is augmenting miseries to our external woes.Non-debt creating inflows like FDI and portfolio inflows had shown great resilience to external crisis last year but sustainability of this resilience is likely to be hurt. 1. 2. 1Pakistans affirming Sector & Foreign banks The major area of the economy of any country is its financial arena, in recent times financial sector has received renewed focalization in the world. And within the broad domain of the financial sector, it is the banking industry that has been the center of attraction for the government and policymakers, odd ly in the landscape of the Universal coin banking Model.Banking is one of the most sensitive businesses all over the world. Banks plays very Copernican role in the economy of the country and Pakistan is no exception. Banks are not only the custodian of the assets of the global masses but also act as a major financial intermediary of the country. The banking sector influences many different but integrated economic activities like mobilization of resources, collection & distribution of national finance.Pakistans financial sector consists of Scheduled commercial-grade Banks which include nationalized, abroad, and private banks and Non-banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) which include ontogenesis Finance Institutions (DFIs), Investment Banks, leasing companies, modarabas, and housing finance companies. Scheduled Banks and NBFIs (excluding modaraba and leasing companies) are both regulated by the State Bank of Pakistans Prudential Regulations, albeit through different wings, and are subject to different SBP regulatory indispensablenesss such as capital and liquidity reserve requirements. The banking sector in Pakistan has been qualifying through a blanket(prenominal) but complex and painful process of restructuring since 1997. It is aimed at making these institutions financially sound and forging their colligate firmly with the real sector for promotion of savings, investment and growth. Although a complete turnaround in banking sector transaction is not expected till the completion of reforms, signs of im farmment are visible. The almost simultaneous disposition of various factors makes it difficult to disentangle signs of improvement and deterio balancen. The central bank has been following a supervisory framework, CAMEL, which involves the synopsis of half-dozen indicators which reflect the financial health of financial institutions. These are 1) Capital Adequacy, 2) Asset Quality, 3) Management Soundness, 4) stipend and positiveness, 5) liquid state and 6) Sensitivity to Market Risk. Pakistans banking sector is made up of 53 banks of which there are 30 commercial banks, four specialized banks, six Islamic banks, seven development financial institutions and six micro-finance banks.According to the State Bank of Pakistans (SBP) Financial Stability Review 2007-08, Pakistans banking sector has remained remarkably steadfast and resilient, despite liner pressures emanating from fallibleening macroeconomic environment. According to Fitch Ratings, the international credit rating chest of drawers dual headquartered in New York and London, the Pakistani banking system has, over the last decade, gradually evolved from a weak state-owned system to a slightly healthier and active private sector driven system. As of October 2008, total deposits fell from Rs3. 77 trillion in family line to Rs3. 67 trillion. Provisions for losses over the same period went up from Rs173 billi on in phratry to Rs178. 9 billion in October. In the meanwhile, the SBP has jacked up economy-wide rates of interest (the 3-month treasury bill auction has seen a jump from 9. 9 percentage in January 2008 to 14 percent as of January 2009 and bank contribute rates are as high as 20 percent). Overall, Pakistans banking sector hasnt been as prone to external shocks as have been banks in Europe. To be certain, liquidity is tight but that has diminutive to do with the Global Financial Crisis and more to do with heavy government borrowing from the banking sector and thusly tight liquidity and the crowding out of the private sector. Increased contention in the banking sector provide force smaller banks to either sell out to other larger banks or merge. A small capital base will also restrict tell expansion of smaller banks, forcing them to focus on relatively smaller retail clients.Hence, it is foreseen that a major merger/acquisition potential in the banking sector. disputation w ould also spill over to other customer services such as provision of standard pressure machines and better banking facilities. Again, only the larger banks would be able to invest in automation technology and branch expansion necessary to improve efficiencies and mobilize cheaper funds. Foreign Banks (FB) comprises 24% of total advances and deposits within the banking system, but as a percentage of total profitability they are far ahead. A major constraint for foreign banks is the restrictions placed on branch expansion by the SBP. This should be according to liberalization policy to wind off restrictions on foreign banks in emerging economies.Traditionally, the foreign banking focused on short term trade finance, targeting mainly low put on the line blue chip clients and high net worth individuals. More recently, foreign banks have also expanded into merchant banking, capital market operations, and consumer/retail banking. Foreign banks have been super successful in capturing a major market share of consumer banking business, especially that of credit cards. Head expire support in terms of international network and technology has enabled the foreign banks to convey important players in the corporate and consumer banking arena. The deposits of foreign banks as ratio of total deposits increased to 27. 99 per cent in 1994-95 as compared to 21. 3 per cent in the preceding year. The advances of foreign banks as ratio of total advances have also shown an increase from 17. 64 per cent to 20. 38 per cent during the same period. Citibank earned a pretax profit of Rs. 1191. 82 million and thus it became the clear up profit earner among the foreign banks in Pakistan. The presence of foreign banks in Pakistan expands access to credit as well as financial services, which can spur efficiency and designing in domestic banks, however, ripple effect of shocks from the credit squeeze in the US has sham on local financial markets through these banks. Pakistan has conc entration of almost all foreign banks in the country. They account for ten percent of deposits in the country in 2007-08. There are substantial changes taking place in the interrelationship with the structure-forming elements in the global financial market which is seriously affecting the financial-credit mechanism in the developing countries, which have not yet developed the financial and economic structures. Countries like Pakistan sensitively react to the structural changes in the financial space. The banking and the entire financial system is much wholeer now, after years of restructuring. Pakistans financial institutions had not invested in derivatives that had exposure to risky investment bankers. Moreover, better supervisory oversight and risk restrainment practices introduced by the SBP have strengthened bank balance sheets while Bank asset quality, profitability, and capital adequacy have also improved remarkably in recent years. If the small size of the Pakistans financi al market has traditionally been a hindrance to a more efficient economy, it may actually prove to be an advantage in the current situation. There are deficiencies in the operations of the banking system, and it does not fulfill its function as finance intermediary. Hence the traditional channels of influence between financial market and real economy do not function in all respects. The banking system is on strong priming coat and has long term potential a feature which has served to attract a substantial amount of FDI in the sector, with established global financial institutions now active participants in the domestic financial sector, it has been well? governed and being in private hands under professional management, has witnessed outstanding financial performance during the last a couple of(prenominal) years. With strong regulatory oversight, there has been a significant enhancement of capital and risk? weighted capital adequacy, supported by high provisioning requirements wh ich were tightened in 2007. Stringent loan provisioning requirement has built sufficient reserves against the NPLs portfolio. In contrast to the liberalized financial system in the west which took its toll in the form of the current global financial crisis, there are stringent ordinances and adequate policies in place to help the banking system manage its risks. It is observed that aggregate financial soundness indicators have improved since early 2000, and continue to exhibit strong performance. Tighter provisioning requirements may have reduced profits, but have positioned banks well, and added ongoing consolidation and mergers have enabled a number of banks to position themselves better. The studies have shown that solvency profile has improved, and granted the pressures from the macroeconomic environment, there is an indication of marginal deterioration in asset quality, which banks are well? equipped to handle. Stress tests conducted on June? 008 data indicate that the large b anks are relatively robust, with the medium and small? sized banks positioning themselves in niche markets. Capital adequacy of the banking system is strong, 12. 1 percent at end? June 2008, well above the internationally acceptable minimum requirement of 8. 0 percent, it said and added core capital constitutes about 80. 0 percent of the total capital, and Tier 1 to risk weighted assets ratio of the banking system is at 9. 7 percent. This strong capital base is attach to by adequate reserves on the back of stringent provisioning requirements against classified assets the net NPLs to net loans ratio is reasonably well? contained i. e. at 1. percent in June 2008, comparable to international best standards, the Report pointed out. Profitability of the banking system continues to be impressive, largely emanating from the persistent growth in high? yield earning assets and expanded business volumes. Before? tax Return On Assets of the banking system remains strong at 2. 3 percent in Ju ne 2008. The strengths built up over the years are now coming in ingenious in managing the recent financial strains. The Governments and public sector organizations excessive borrowings from the banking system make up another challenge for the banking system. Notwithstanding, the liquidity strains were temporary and the inter? bank market is now functioning normally. Albeit going forward, the banking sector faces a significant challenge in maintaining its deposit base and in attracting new deposits, given the three rounds of increase in the rates of return on NSS instruments in the first few months of FY09. This will in a way force them to enhance the quality and returns on their liability products, and strengthen arguing, it pointed out. Liquidity position of banks also had an uphold on the Non? Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs), whose main source of funding continues to be credit lines from banks. A broader assessment of financial stability indicates that the financial sector is too bank? centric, and the outreach and growth of the Non?Bank Finance Companies and the Insurance sector have languished in recent years, it said and added NBFCs face direct competition from banks and are not likely to grow significantly until their funding sources and costs are streamlined. An excessive dependency on the banking system to meet the financing needs of the economy, as well as other participants of the financial sector, is quite stark in comparison with other emerging economies, where in general, the growth in other components of the financial sector, such as capital markets, complements and supplements the financing capacity of the banking sector. While financial markets (money market and foreign exchange market) remained resilient to the developments in the macroeconomic environment and functioned well in maintaining financial stability.Despite several achievements of the financial sector in recent years, financial depth and penetration in Pakistan continues to be low, and SBPs financial inclusion strategy are aimed at extending the net of financial services. A lack of confidence in banking system has also traditionally prevented a significant sector of households from keeping their savings in banks. Hence, the impact on households of a possible burst in bank insolvencies will be minimal. In addition, the volume of deposits are in the state-owned banks or banks with sizeable government presence. Indirect effects may thus become prominent in evaluating the consequences of the financial turmoil on the real economy. The tight liquidity situation peculiarly hampers the operations of small banks and banks with limited resources, so the possibility of insolvency and bankruptcy cannot be ignored for some banks. Pakistan is facing a gimmick of financing huge fiscal deficits in 2008-09 and if liquidity constraint remains constitutional with limitations on external financing, the demand for State Bank resources will grow at a smart pace. The unwi llingness of the SBP to finance the deficit may have serious implications for fiscal operations. This will attract major cuts in growth enhancing development phthisis because current expenditure offers little room for adjustment. The development expenditure has crucial for job creation and interlink ages in the economy. The refinancing of fiscal deficit without SBP finances may prove to be difficult, and will further tighten liquidity conditions and could lead to insolvencies for banks as well as add further pressures on taxation options. 1. 3 Statement of the Problem This aim of this interrogation is to analyse the running(a) of foreign banks, their operations and situations after global financial crisis and the services they are providing. My project discussion will be based on the research conducted to Essay - 1
My project discussion will be based on the research conducted to evaluate the immigration policy and the impact it has on the va - Essay pil meekcaseThe various immigration policies differ from democracy to country. There atomic number 18 similarities and disparities in the immigration policies in demonstrable countries like Canada and under-developed or developing countries like South Africa. The similarities and differences in immigration policies in Canada and South Africa eat an impact on the number of people that immigrate, with potential effects on the labor workforce in these countries influencing economy differently. Immigration Immigration is simply relocating to an opposite country for different reasons. Some immigrate to search for jobs, governmental freedom, studying, marrying and for business. Immigration is different from country to country. While some countries may be good for governmental asylum, they may non be the best for business or studying. As such, peo ple have to look at the country they will immigrate to very c atomic number 18fully depending on their future objectives and goals. However, there are exceptions, where a country is suitable for all the possible reasons for immigration. Developed countries have almost everything in order including democracy, statement system, better wages and business opportunities. Any person can move into such a country and meet his objectives. Developed country is defined as a country with advanced level industrialization, gritty income, and high life expectancy rate, democratically mature, good education systems and with well defined political systems and low corruption rates. Such countries have high literacy levels and high employment rates as well. On the other hand, developing countries are those that are on the path of becoming industrialized, democratically mature. The income, life expectancy, education systems and political systems are improving but are yet to get to the required leve ls. Most developing countries are working hard to ensure they become developed. Immigration policy is one of the many things such countries are using to improve the various systems. Developed countries also depend on the immigration policies for different things (The human race Bank 1). Similarities and differences in immigration policies in Canada and South Africa Workforce South Africa and Canada are constantly in need of people to work in the various sectors of the economy. The reasons behind this are different for the two countries. In South Africa, laborers required are usually non-skilled and semi-skilled. The demand for these workers is attributed to by the many mining industries within the country. Skills do not need to be high unless the person will have to be employed as a manager or director of the big firms. In fact, people looking for un-skilled and semi-skilled jobs are not well educate in most cases. However, this does not meet that well educated people with high le vel of skills cannot be sustaind. The South Africa Department of Home Affairs categorically states that the country can accommodate people with exceptional skills and qualifications. There are no specifications on the Language an immigrant has to be proficient in to move and live in South Africa (Segatti 19). On the other hand, Canada focuses mainly on highly educated and highly skilled persons. The department of immigration categorically states that potential immigrants to Canada have to be well learned.
